Directed by Marion Pintello

Ellen, the wife of a successful author, has written a book of her own, “The Supporting Cast” which describes the role of her characters -- the movie star’s wife, the playwright’s husband, the celebrity conductor’s mother, and the politician’s wife.  But the thinly disguised characters in the book are actually her best friends in real life.  She has invited them – all visiting New Yorkers -- to her Malibu beach house to break the news to them gently that they are depicted in the book, warts and all.  They react with shock, dismay, fury, and of course – hilarity!  There’s humor from both coasts, natural and man-made disasters, mayhem, merriment and plenty of laughs for the audience!

All friends in the local theater community, the four women and one man in the cast play their very diverse roles with gusto.  Donna Knippen plays the role of Ellen Moore, who hosts the luncheon at her beach house.  Laura Glasspool, Heather Bass and Stephanie Pintello join her for the chaotic afternoon as Easterners who can’t get used to the ocean being on the wrong side.  Plus Rod Pintello is in classic character-actor form for his role as Arnold Weller.

The play was written by George Furth, a successful Broadway producer and playwright, with lots of humor and a dash of cynicism.  “The characters are forceful and our actors are very strong,” says director Marion Pintello.  “We’re all enjoying the author’s wit and knack for pointed humor.”

Bringing a new show to a new stage in a timely manner has presented some challenges, but the Pintello family is following their proven pattern for successful comedy theater.  “The Grange Hall is going to be a fun place to perform, and we are working hard to get ready for our guests,” says producer Rod Pintello.  The venue is intimate and the atmosphere is friendly, patrons are seated around bistro tables close to the raised stage, so everyone has a great seat for the comedy and laughs.
